North Rebel 2011 - High Performance Freeride/Wave Kite

Featuring Progression 10 and Technoforce D2 Making these 2011 Kites even slicker and stronger than ever before!

www.northkites.com/Rebel

Whether you’re ripping apart waves, getting huge, lofty jumps or just blasting around on flat water, the 2011 Rebel is a stylish 5-line all-terrain free-ride/wave machine that gives you an unmatched “connected” feel and virtually limitless performance in all conditions.

The Rebel has become famous for it’s direct de-power, smooth, predictable turning, even when de-powered, and short bar stroke. And this year is no exception! Flutter-free wingtips have again greatly improved the smoothness and consistency of the Rebel’s turning. This smooth turning combined with optimized canopy profiles that are highly resistant to back-stalling provide seamless power delivery ideal for surfing. Improved bar feel and de-power in the small sizes means even more comfortable and accessible top-end so you can keep having fun even when the wind gets nuclear.

The loaded 5th line design provides the highest level of safety as well as being responsible for the unique short de-power stroke and direct lively feeling. Mainly due to the floating strut construction, the Rebels get a very direct and precise feeling – even when depowered. Our highest quality standard “Progression 10″ construction means the Rebel is built to last and withstand the demands that serious riders put on their kites, as well as providing a long list of other slick details like back line V bungees and snag free strut ends. Now stop dreaming and go ride!

History

Stand up paddle surfing (SUP), or in the Hawaiian language Hoe he’e nalu, is an emerging global sport with a Hawaiian heritage. It can be traced back to the early days of Polynesia. The sport is an ancient form of surfing, and began as a way for surfing instructors to manage their large groups of learner surfers, as standing on the board gave them a higher viewpoint, increasing visibility of what was going on around them - such as incoming swell. To begin with, this started with using a one-bladed paddle, whilst standing on a normal length surfboard. The popularity of the modern sport of SUP has its origination in the Hawaiian Islands. In the early 1960s, the Beach Boys of Waikiki would stand on their long boards, and paddle out with outrigger paddles to take pictures of the tourists learning to surf. This is where the term “Beach Boy Surfing”, another name for Stand Up Paddle Surfing, originates.

The third generation North Rebel 2010 freeride/wave kite is smooth, lively and features responsive steering even when De-powered making the North Rebel 2010 the ultimate kite for wave and freeriding in any conditions.

North kites New Rebel 2010

From flat water freedom to smashing waves of any size the 2010 North Rebel is The all terrain freeride/wave kite of your dreams!

The third generation North Rebel 2010 freeride/wave kite is smooth, lively and features responsive steering even when De-powered making the North Rebel 2010 the ultimate kite for wave and freeriding in any conditions.

New for the Rebel 2010 is the loaded 5th line design, in addition to providing safety it gives the Rebel 2010 a short and aggressive power stroke that is up to 30% shorter than bridled kites. This means huge wind range and top-end performance for those super windy days. This provides the ability to instantly turn the power on and off at will, weather riding in gusty conditions or linking up top and bottom turns on a wave.
The new floating center strut further enhances the direct De-power by allowing the canopy to luff as well as providing rock solid stability in strong winds.
The new back-line V attachment distributes the load of the back lines on the kite for a direct and solid bar feel, together with the new bungee system, eliminates any line snags during re-launch.
The Rebel’s unique steering sensitivity and smoothness have also been improved by implementing a straight segment in the leading edge for an ultra clean flutter free canopy near the tips that keeps you connected and in tune to the kites every movement.

Key improvements for 2010 are:
-All sizes have greater structural stability and a more solid feel
-All sizes have lower drag less flutter and better depower
-All sizes have stronger construction
-Large sizes are crisper in feel
-Middle sizes are crisper in feel and more stable in the air
-Small sizes are softer and more forgiving

The Cabrinha Nomad is a kite for an advanced rider looking for performance in freestyle and waves. The kites turns off the wingtip and generates a lot of pull in kite loops. The Cabrinha Nomad is ideal for anyone looking to do huge unhooked wake style tricks while still having the safety and depower of the IDS bridle and control system.

The Cabrinha Nomad 2010 is the newest kite in the Cabrinha Series… it has a more closed arc than other kites, so technically speaking it is not a pure bow kite. It still utilizes the IDS- Intelligent Depower System bridle, has super easy bow style relaunch and the same control system as the other Cabrinha bow kites.

In the surf, the kite sits back in the pocket and pivots nicely so that it’s always in the right place. The Nomad absolutely floats as you rip down the line. The Nomad has great depower and turns fast. The Nomad handles the task of unhooked riding by delivering a constant steady powerband. When unhooked the kite continues to fly forward, making the power predictable during your tricks.

This season Cabrinha take durability head-on with the addition of transitional strut panel materials and reinforced LE closing seams. Cabrinha have reinforced the high load areas of the Nomad with a transitionally weighted material. This well-placed material acts as a buffer zone between the rigid strut areas and the canopy. The entire canopy of all Cabrinha kites are flat seamed and taped prior to sewing. This is 20% stronger than the freehand sewn method of a top stitching.
The leading edge construction of the Cabrinha Nomad now utilizes a hot melt glue tape in the leading edge closing seam for added strength. The entire trailing edge implements a two-ply of tough 70 gsm material for added durability and strength.
Full contact between the strut and the leading edge helps to ensure a rigid frame for the industry leading Cabrinha Nomad. The positive connection not only provides stability and fast turning while the kite is in flight but delivers added durability and rapid relaunch.

Key Facts:

massive hangtime and height

huge low end potential

best upwind speed of the whole range

highest stability

crisp bar feeling

The North Rhino has always been synonymous with extreme power and big jumps. The 2009 Rhino is no exception

Designed for jumping, racing and getting out in the lightest wind the ‘09 Rhino has the biggest low-end, best hang-time and best upwind speed of any kite in the North range. Less extreme sweep and a slightly flatter profile in the center and tips contribute to better high-wind stability, less drag in overpowered conditions and smooth, responsive turning.

Improved lift makes it easy to get big lofty jumps that are vertical and drag-free. The simplified Attack Control Bridle permits substantial changes in angle of attack (power/de-power) without any undesirable twists in kite geometry which results in a surprisingly crisp and responsive bar feel.

Cabrinha had this to say:

The industry leading kite for freeriding and wakestyle just got better. Thanks to the addition of the Intelligent Depower System or IDS you have more control at your fingertips than you ever thought possible.

The Switchblade IDS is a performance kite with a direct, super light bar feel, and easy handling capabilities. The Switchblade excels in the competition wakestyle arena but is simple enough to make any rider feel like a pro.

The Switchblade handles the task of unhooked riding by delivering a constant steady powerband. When unhooked the kite continues to fly forward, making the power predictable during your tricks. On the fly depower is extremely linear which means you’ll always have the correct amount of power for the job at hand.

Kitescool had this to say:

We did some of our own test riding and reckon that this is a great kite for Nelson conditions; it handles gusty South West winds easily and has lots of light wind power for the light sea breeze days. It relaunches really easily and the new bar had a clean and simple feel being free of pulleys and clutter, bar pressure is very light and best of all the New Cabrinha Switchblade IDS now has absolute depower which makes landing the kite by yourself safe and secure. These kites are so good that we have introduced them into the school for intermediate and advanced students to practice on.
